Sigiriya, also known as Lion Rock, is an ancient rock fortress and palace ruins located in the central Matale District. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of Sri Lanka's most spectacular archaeological sites, rising 200 meters above the surrounding plains. Built in the 5th century by King Kassapa I, Sigiriya combines ancient urban planning, water engineering, and artistic achievement. The site features remarkable frescoes, landscaped gardens, and breathtaking panoramic views from the summit.
