Kandy

Hill Capital & Cultural Heart

About Kandy

Kandy is the last capital of the ancient kings' era of Sri Lanka and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nestled in the hills at an elevation of 500 meters, Kandy is famous for the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), which houses the tooth relic of Lord Buddha. The city is surrounded by beautiful mountains and features a scenic lake in its center. Kandy is also known for its annual Esala Perahera festival, one of the grandest Buddhist festivals in the world, featuring traditional dancers, drummers, and decorated elephants.
